A targeted energy efficiency upgrade was carried out at the municipal wastewater treatment plant of Alföldvíz Zrt. in Mezőkovácsháza. The investment focused on modernizing the existing technology without any new construction works, with the primary objective of improving energy efficiency.
As part of the development, two 37 kW roots blowers were replaced with modern magnetic bearing units: one 22 kW and one 15 kW Raetts turbo blower were installed. These magnetic bearing turbo blowers, which are particularly well suited for small-scale plants, are unique on the Hungarian market; in this capacity range, our company is the only one capable of installing such equipment. The new asymmetric system better matches the plant’s intraday variable air demand, thereby optimizing operation and reducing electrical energy consumption.
Another objective of the project was the reconstruction of the aeration field of the entire biological treatment block, involving the complete dismantling of the existing systems and the installation of entirely new systems equipped with disc diffusers, including the construction of a new distribution piping network.
Based on operational experience and calculated data, it can be stated that the blower replacement reduced the wastewater treatment plant’s energy demand by more than 30%, leading to lower operating costs in the long term and contributing to sustainable operation.
