Heineken Hungary wastewater treatment plant operation

Location:
Sopron, Hungary
Year of construction:
Since 2009
We have been operating the anaerobic biological wastewater treatment facility of Heineken Hungária Breweries Plc. in Sopron since the completion of commissioning and trial operation. In addition to wastewater treatment, the facility also includes biogas production, desulfurization, and energy utilization.
From the 350,000–400,000 m³ of biogas produced annually, approximately 2,400 MWh of thermal energy in the form of steam is generated, which is utilized by the brewery in its production processes.
Our operational scope includes the following activities:
- Production and treatment of brewing and other process waters. The water treatment facility operates five demineralization units, treating approximately 300,000–350,000 m³ of water annually.
- Production and distribution of compressed air to all production units of the factory.
- Provision of cooling energy for the annual production of two million hectoliters of beer.
- Distribution of externally supplied steam within the factory and return of the generated condensate to the power plant.
These operational activities are performed by seven staff members working in continuous shifts, 365 days a year.
