TEVA biogas plant design

Location:
Debrecen and Sajóbábony, Hungary
Year of construction:
2022-2025
We were tasked with assessing the feasibility of utilizing high organic content wastes and by-products generated at TEVA Plc.’s Debrecen and Sajóbábony production sites—such as sludges, fermentation liquors, and solvent-containing liquid wastes—in a dedicated, newly built biogas plant. Following data collection and on-site surveys, sampling campaigns and laboratory-scale biogas yield tests were carried out.
In addition, a pilot-scale on-site test was conducted to evaluate the disintegration of biological sludge generated at the industrial wastewater pre-treatment facility of the Debrecen plant. Within this framework, the performance of an electrokinetic disintegration test unit was examined over a period of one and a half months. Based on on-site and laboratory measurements, the biogas plant concepts were documented and delivered in the form of a feasibility study, which included site-specific biogas plant designs for both the Sajóbábony and Debrecen facilities. At the latter site, the planned technical scope also included, in addition to a gas engine, a wastewater-source heat pump and a low-temperature sludge dryer.
