What we did

We assessed the feasibility of utilizing high-organic-content waste and by-products — sludge, fermentation broths, and solvent-containing liquid waste — generated at TEVA Zrt.'s Debrecen and Sajóbábony plants, in a new, dedicated biogas facility. Following data collection and site surveys, we carried out sampling and laboratory biogas yield testing. We also ran an on-site pilot to investigate the disintegration of biological sludge from the industrial wastewater pre-treatment system at the client's Debrecen plant, testing the effectiveness of an electrokinetic disintegration unit over six weeks. We delivered the resulting biogas plant designs — backed by both on-site and laboratory measurements — as a feasibility study covering separate biogas plant concepts for the Sajóbábony and Debrecen sites. At the Debrecen site, the planned technical scope also included a wastewater heat pump and a low-temperature sludge dryer alongside the gas engine.

Outcome

The result was three comprehensive feasibility studies to support decision-making on building the facilities.
